The Practice
Sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you're too busy, then sit for an hour.
~Old Zen Saying
We are spiritual beings having a human experience. Nevertheless, in our physical existence we also encounter conflict and stress. How do we integrate the density of this world with the light-ness of our true being? In the past when I found myself engulfed by challenging situations and circumstances. I easily felt overwhelmed, pulled in different directions and disconnected, like a fish out of water.
When I looked more closely at the “fish-out-of-water” image and allowed myself to feel the feelings that came with it, I realized that I allowed myself to be taken out of the natural immersive-ness of my own spirituality. Physical circumstances and all the things on my to-do list had taken precedence over my spiritual practice such as prayer, journaling and meditation.
A fish is perfectly at home in its setting. It is fully immersed in its surroundings and it has qualities of beauty, perfection and power through its oneness with its environment. Once it is taken out of its habitat it is fit for nothing and has to quickly gasp away its life.
As spiritual beings we must remind ourselves that the connection with our divine heritage is through our spirituality, and as human beings we can make the choice to set aside our to-do lists and let Spirit have Its way in, as and through our beingness on this earth plane.
Once we let our spirituality be our home again, we can find peace in our spiritual practices, whatever they are for each one of us. And then we can bring that good energy into all aspects of our lives, and watch it inform and transform all our thoughts, feelings, emotions, actions and interactions.
Affirmation:
My life is a true expression of Spirit. Prayer and meditation guide my very step and all my thoughts, feelings, actions and interactions are transformed through grace and are God ordained.
