Who I Am Is More Than I Thought

Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.
~Walt Whitman

Thoughts come and go through my head, my heart, my belly. Sometimes they come invited and sometimes they vehemently knock at the door of my mind to be let in just to create havoc. However, that was in the past.

Through daily spiritual practice of prayer, mediation and study I learned that it is me who must consciously open the door of my mind to let any thought in. In the same way that I am not going on vacation while I leave the windows and doors of my house open I will tend to my mind. When I am awake, aware and consciously present, I get to choose which are the thoughts I am allowing into my energetic field.

This does not mean to exclude bothersome thoughts or to put up barricades within my heart to not have to deal with perceived negative patterns. When I am consciously aware I get to choose. I am more than the thought, the feeling or the emotion. My inner house is bigger than any a single energetic pattern that could try to attempt to completely fill it. Therefore, I can open the door and let thoughts of concern, anger, grief, anxiousness or frustration in, because I know, that these are all greeted by love. Love that is fueled by self-love, love for others and especially the love of God. Such a love is transformative and since that love does not ask for anything in return every guest leaves this house lighter, brighter and more spacious than when they entered.

My mind is my garden and I tend to it daily. Peace is its soil and love is the water that nurtures every seed the winds of life bring by. With the warmth of the sun, that which I call God, everything grows!

Affirmation:
The mind of God is my mind now! Love is the universal solvent I use in my garden! Everything grows and Life is good!
